Today is Giving Tuesday! LEARN MORE & GIVE NOW
The month of February is recognized as Black History Month, a celebration of the richness of Black culture and the contributions that Black Americans have made to our country. The celebration began in the United States, but has become a more global celebration as countries around the world set aside a month to celebrate Black history.
The Black History Month 2021 theme, “Black Family: Representation, Identity and Diversity” encourages citizens to pause and consider how the families of our nation and the diversity thereof contribute to the uniqueness of the United States. Throughout February, EC will recognize and celebrate Black history as we support and reinforce our spiritual theme for the year: “And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8).
As a rule of practice, our teachers endeavor to include the voices and histories of many peoples throughout the year, noting the contributions of and distinct perspectives these voices bring to our country. It is a privilege to not only learn about the differences among these groups, but also to see them represented in our student body and the families that are a part of Eastern Christian. It is a visual reminder of our 2019-2020 theme, “Every Nation, Every Tribe, Every Tongue,” and a theological reminder that God’s plan of salvation is inclusive of people from all over the world.
EC is proud to be one of the most diverse learning communities in all of Northern New Jersey, and we take seriously our responsibility to be intentional about honoring and authentically partnering with every Eastern Christian School family. We want our community to move closer to “on earth as it is in heaven,” where we will worship together before the throne of Christ, and we are privileged to partner with you in that mission.
